Van de Velde lives and works in Arnhem. With a background in contemporary dance and degrees in Fine Arts, in Architecture and in Autonomous Photography (cum laude), van de Velde’s work is firmly grounded in spatial awareness and physical movement. Her practice is one of slow surrender: of dismantled barriers, of boundaries being tested and an identity emerging. She is an innovative multimedia artist who experiments the limitations of the photographic medium, performance, multimedia and sculpture. In her work she is constantly exploring the boundaries between these artistic disciplines in order to cross them.

In her art, Daphne van de Velde visualizes womanhood in a male-dominated society. Daphne’s art is autobiographical. Due to her complicated relationship with her father from whom she became estranged at an early age, desire and threat are a recurring motif in her artistry. Due to her background in contemporary dance, she uses her own body to explore how to deal with fear of one’s own longing and rejection, what love is and why you may distrust it, yet not always. In this way, she has been able to overcome a paralyzing shyness.

She has won several awards both nationally and internationally. Her work has been included in various solo and group exhibitions as A PPR OC HE PARIS, 2025, ‘Body Talk’ (Stedelijk Museum Vianen, 2024), ‘Fear’ (Museo La Collegiata dei Pietro e Orso, Aosta (IT), 2024), Het uur Blauw (Black Swan Gallery (BE), 2024), UNSEEN Amsterdam (2023 and 2022), Skin in the Game (Black Swan Gallery (BE), 2023), Restart (Prospektas Galléry Vilnius (LT) 2023, Photo IS:RAEL (2022) Museum Belvédère (2021) Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam (2021).

Van de Velde woont en werkt in Arnhem. Met een achtergrond in hedendaagse dans en een afgeronde opleiding Fine Arts, architectuur, en autonome fotografie (cum laude), is Van de Velde’s werk diep geworteld in ruimtelijk bewustzijn en lichamelijke beweging. Haar praktijk is er één van langzame overgave: van ontmantelde grenzen, geteste territoria en een zelf dat zich ontvouwt. Het werk is een innovatieve verkenning van het fotografische medium, het tast de grens tussen fotografie, performance en sculptuur af. In haar werk verkent ze voortdurend de grenzen tussen deze artistieke disciplines om er vervolgens overheen te gaan.

Ze verbeeldt in haar kunst het vrouw-zijn in een door mannen gedomineerde samenleving. Het werk is autobiografisch. Door de gecompliceerde relatie met haar vader van wie ze al op jonge leeftijd vervreemd raakte, zijn verlangen en bedreiging een steeds terugkerend motief in haar kunstenaarschap. Door haar achtergrond in contemporaine dans gebruikt ze haar eigen lichaam om te onderzoeken hoe je omgaat met angst voor het eigen verlangen en afwijzing, wat liefde is en waarom je dat mag wantrouwen, maar niet altijd. Op deze manier heeft ze een verlammende verlegenheid kunnen overwinnen.

Ze heeft prijzen gewonnen in binnen- en buitenland en haar werk is geëxposeerd op verschillende solo en groepsexposties als: A PPR OC HE PARIS, 2025, ‘Body Talk’ (Stedelijk Museum Vianen, 2024), ‘Fear’ (Museo La Collegiata dei Pietro e Orso, Aosta (IT), 2024), Het uur Blauw (Black Swan Gallery (BE), 2024), UNSEEN Amsterdam (2023 and 2022), Skin in the Game (Black Swan Gallery (BE), 2023), Restart (Prospektas Galléry Vilnius (LT) 2023, Photo IS:RAEL (2022) Museum Belvédère (2021) Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam (2021).
